Claude Pro costs $20 a month, or $17 a month if you pay for a year up front. Max is $100 a month, Ultra is $200, and the free plan costs nothing. Prices are before tax and were checked on November 3, 2026.
Anthropic changes its plans several times a year. That's why the check date sits next to the prices, and this page is checked again every month.

Prices right now
These are the prices on claude.com/pricing. Tax is added at checkout.

For trying Claude out. Limited usage every 5 hours and every week.
- Pro: $20 a month
Or $200 for a year, which works out to about $17 a month. For everyday work in your business.

Max gives you five times Pro's usage. Ultra gives you ten times Pro's weekly usage. Both are billed monthly.

These prices apply when you buy on claude.ai or in the desktop app. Through the App Store or Google Play, the price may be different.
What each plan includes
From Pro up, the features are almost the same. On the bigger plans, you're paying for usage.
- Free
Chat on desktop, mobile and the web, web search, files and code execution, memory, connectors to your tools, and skills. Up to five projects. The Sonnet and Haiku models.
- Pro
Everything in Free with more usage. You can hand Claude tasks it works on in the background and schedule them to run at set times. Claude Code, Claude in Chrome, Research, unlimited projects and the Opus model. Fable, Claude's most capable model, is paid for with usage credits.
- Max
Everything in Pro with five times the usage, Fable for up to half your weekly limit, priority access at busy times and $100 a month in API credits to build on the Claude Platform. You use API credits if you connect Claude to your own software.
- Ultra
Everything in Max, no 5-hour limit for verified accounts, ten times Pro's weekly usage and $200 a month in API credits.
- Team
All features, central billing and admin, single sign-on and shared projects. Anthropic doesn't train its models on your content unless you turn it on.
Skills are on every plan, including the free one. Plugins, which are bundles of skills, and scheduled tasks need a paid plan.
How the limits work
No plan has a fixed number of messages. Every plan has a limit that resets every 5 hours, and the paid plans also have a weekly limit.
How fast you reach it depends on the model, how long the chat is and how big your files are. One long chat with heavy files uses more than ten short questions. Chat, Cowork, Claude Code and the mobile app all draw from the same pool.
Settings, Usage shows how much you've used and when your limit resets. When you hit it, you can wait, move to a bigger plan or turn on usage credits. Usage credits are on the paid plans: you pay for extra usage at API rates, and you set your own monthly cap.
How to choose
Pro is enough to start. The plan decides how much Claude can get done for you. What the time is for is a decision you make before you pick a plan.
- Free, to try Claude out
You can write, search and work with files, and see whether Claude fits the way you work.
- Pro, when Claude should handle tasks for you
Background tasks and scheduled tasks need a paid plan. So do Claude in Chrome and Claude Code. The agents in my shop, like the Meta ads agent, need Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise.
- Max, when you hit the limit several times a week
When several agents run every day, or you work in long chats with big files. You can move from Pro to Max mid-period, and the time you've already paid for is credited.
- Team, when there are several of you
When colleagues need to share projects and skills, and the bill should land in one place.
I'm on Max myself. My morning report, the ads agent and the content agent run in Claude every week, and several of them run at set times.
Start with the workflow you'd most like out of your week. If we build your first system in Claude in a 1:1 session, you'll need at least Pro.
Switch or cancel
You switch plans and cancel under Settings, Billing in Claude.
Open Settings, Billing
Your plan is at the top, with the date it renews.
Switch with Adjust plan
Moving to a bigger plan takes effect right away, and the rest of your paid period is credited. Moving to a smaller plan takes effect from the next period.
Cancel at the bottom of the page
Cancel under Cancel plan, at least 24 hours before it renews. Your plan runs until the end of the period, and then the account moves to Free.
Your chats, projects and files stay when you cancel. In the EU and the UK, you can withdraw within 14 days and ask for a refund right in the app.

Build from there
Once you've picked a plan, the next step is the settings and your first workflow.
Get started with Claude covers the first afternoon: your account, the settings you check once, and your first project. And Claude skills shows how to write a workflow down once, so Claude can follow it every time.
If the system should be built for your business, we set it up together in a 1:1 session. You see how I brief, what context I give it, and when it's allowed to run on its own.
